I haven't seen many topics about Exxon either, so just thought I'd bring it up.

In case anyone is new to this topic, Exxon Mobil is a big oil company that keeps pressing on drilling in the Alaskan National Wildlife Refuge, the largest and least touched wildlife refuge in our country, for oil that scientists predict to supply us with enough gas to lower gas bills by ONE CENT for six months, after which it would only go even higher than it originally was. Exxon has tried multiple times and failed, though by close votes, because of the American citizens' opposition to drill in the pristine Alaskan Wildlife Refuge.

And let's not forget Exxon's Valdez oil spill in I-forgot-what-year-that-was. =p

We can't burn fossil fuels forever. There are alternatives, even though they are not incredibly reliable. I think that we should use the alternatives like wind and solar power whenever we can and only resort to fossil fuels at times when the wind or sunlight are low...at least until enviornmental engineers come up with a more dependable alternative.

What do you guys think?

I totally believe renewables are the way to go - wind, solar, wave, biomass etc. & energy reduction (i.e. using less) & energy efficiency (eg. loft insulation, double/triple glazed windows etc.)
Biofuels in vehicles, cycling, walking and public transport rather than everyone using their own individual fuel-guzzling cars will certainly help too.
Ideally, I'd like to get to a stage where humanity doesn't need to use fossil fuels at all. They're probably going to run out eventually anyway - the 'peak oil' theory. - see-
