Do you think the more videogames or the more television you watch, the worse your creativity?
  HECK no!
  Of course!
  Well, to certain limits, yes. But not in general.
  ...what?

Okay, I didn't look up anything on this like I usually do, but I saw this in some random movie. There was this rich writer who had no TV or video games. Someone asked him "why?" and he replied, "because they stifle creativity."

Okay, I like to write. I write a lot. Another thing I do a lot of is play video games, and my creativity doesn't seem muffled whatsoever. In fact, I'd say my creativity is enhanced the more I play. There is a limit, I'm sure, to how much you play, how you play, or what games you play, but still--in general, I don't believe this theory. Video games and television are filled with sparks that start a miraculous fire of a story in my mind continuously...

..so how, then, can my creativity be stifled?

You speak Blasphamy Spoony bard!

Honestly though, It matters what you are playing, and the type of person. If you play mindless shooters for hours on end... im sure the only benifit is increased reaction times.

However, a game with a good story, like most RPG's, and it's the equivilent of reading a book.

Same idea in movies or TV, find a movie where you have to think about the story, or has deep thought put into it. (personal favorites in this group, Butterfly Effect, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), and you cant dissagree that it will effect you in a possitive way.

Only real negitive of reading, watching movies, or playing games, is that idea you might come up with, will be slightly influenced by all of them, which is perfectly okay, unless you start copying things too closely.

Eine lange Nacht beginnt...

I find that my videos, shows, et cetera actually enhance my creativity. As previously stated, it will be slightly based on the circumstances of whatever it is I'm watching/playing, but so far I've never followed too closely.

Well, stories need inspiration, you know? I get my inspiration from movies, videogames, and television! It's the only media we are really exposed to nowadays, while the authors of old got their inspiration from more mundane things that aren't media-based...well, I could say that I have gotten some of my add-ons in my stories from real-life happenings or situations in my life, but I can't say that most of the stuff that inspires me isn't from a videogame/movie >.<;

Video games don't exactly stifle my creativity. On the other hand, it's much easier to play a video game that someone else created than actually make your own. In that sense of 'stifling creativity', books are no better than movies or games.
All in moderation. Except reading, no matter what they say. Never never never.
xD Hypocritical, am I not?

I love writing, and my ideas are pretty creative. I am also an anime freak, video game fanatic, especially RPGs, a book worm, I love Love LOVE TV, and none of this has oppressed my writing ability. In fact, it's enhanced it.
