Okay. We need a Morrowind thread. I find Oblivion threads all over the place and don't get me wrong, I LOVE that game but Morrowind was just so much better on so many levels. So let's discuss, those of us that have the addiction anyway. rofl
Maybe we can convert some of the Oblivion junkies who've never even played Morrowind. Sad I know. blaugh
Why we love it =
Thieves have it made in Morrowind. Unlike Oblivion which ignores our acquisitive nature, Morrowind gives us three Fort Knox type targets to assault. The Vaults in Vivec for House Hailuu, Redoran and Telvanni.
These babies require some serious planning, training and skill to break into. The Haul? Enough in gold, jewels and rare weaponry and armor to make you rich for a lifetime...if you can get in without getting caught.
Level scaling - there is none! Yay! In Morrowind, you know there are certain places you just don't go at a low level unless you want to get your shapely behind handed to you on a platter. It adds a certain feel of uncertainty when you're wandering the wild. You never know when you'll stumble across a Golden Saint at level 2 and pee your panties as you run like a girl.
Mark and Recall. Unlike Oblivions fast travel, these only work for a single location. Once you change it, you're screwed. Fast travel really takes away from the world size feel of the game for me. It makes sure that once you've been somewhere once, you never have to slog your way through the wild again to get there.
In Morrowind we have boats, Silt Striders and the Mages Guild to get to all the major towns. Otherwise, it's a trip through the wilderness, which I love.
The leveling system. When I play Oblivion, I seem to find myself spending more time trying to level skills than actually immersing myself in the game. In Morrowind, I tend to set my skills, and except for something I particularly need, I let them level as they will.
Morrowind's Main Plot. It was such a long and grueling quest to get to Dagoth Ur. Oblivions seemes to take no time at all. Dagoth would periodically send things to mess with your head throughout the game, even if you were ignoring the main story. Kept you involved even when you were doing something else. Never knew when you were going to wake up with an Ash Ghoul standing over you. blaugh
And my favorite thing about Morrowind, now that I've played Oblivion.....No Invisible Barriers in the world!! This makes Morrowind feel so huge and expansive. You literally could walk off into the ocean if you wanted to.
Now, don't get me wrong. I love Oblivion. I've played it to distraction. I wont tell you how many hours I have logged into that game because frankly, it emberasses me. lol So many, that I wrote six guides for the game. I do love Oblivion.
But Morrowind is simply the better game. Hopefully, Oblivion will get there someday. With enough User Created Mods and expansion Packs, it has the potential.
Now, what do you think? Let's hear it. If you wanna flame the game, feel free. Not everone is a Morrowind addict. I know. blaugh Let's hear your thoughts. Your favorite race, character, storyline...whatever you wanna share.
