I've been going around, reading my feminist blogs as I often do, and usually at the end of it, I just can't help feeling bad. When I read about certain things, and certain inequalities that don't seem to ever go away, I just cringe.

Do you ever feel that the world isn't getting any better? It's discouraging sometimes. <33

No reason to stop though, if I let myself get discouraged enough to stop, then I feel nothing will ever improve.

There are days when I witness so much BS during my classes and my freetime at college that I go home with an extremely negative viewpoint of the world, and I pretty much hate everybody. Not just because of feminist stuff (though this is a pretty big part), but so many things combined. Luckily, it usually passes over if not in a day, at least on the weekend.

Yeah, it's definately not just the feminism that gets me to feel that way. It usually has alot to do with a whole gamut of 'equality' issues, so that includes say racism, religious intolerance etc.

I usually get over it after a few hours.

The world will always have injustice, biased views, and stereotypes galore.

We can strive for equality, but we know it's a pretty difficult goal.

Maybe what each of us should strive for is self-awareness, acceptance of others, and our own pursuit of happiness.

Self awareness, acceptance ofothers, and our own happiness are fine goals, but I don't know how to achieve my own happiness, at the same time as self awareness.

Being aware that about of rapes are reported, and only around %5 of reported rapes lead to a conviction for example. Now that I know that... I can't help but want the situation to change.

Once I think about, and realise how prevalent inequalities are and how wide their effects... I don't know how I could achive personal happiness in this world with all it's problems.

Yeah, it really gets to me too. For a long time I gave up on reading the news because I'd get so upset and even depressed over it.

I think the focus here is whom you're unhappy with. You appear to have a caring heart, and when others experience pain, you feel as if you cannot be happy. Am I correct?

Yeah, that sounds about right. I get unhappy when other people are. I don't like seeing other people in any sort of pain, and I don't like seeing things that I consider to be injustices.

Feels hard to be happy when thee's so much bad around, even if it's not all happening to me.

I have a friend like this. He's so caught up in making others happy that somewhere along the way, he loses sight of himself. And when someone is not happy, he feels responsible for it.

Maybe you don't take responsibility, and maybe you do, but you're still affected by others' emotions.

Is there a way that make you could be more compassionate, but not to the point where it hurts your perception of humanity?

I thought I'd look up compassion. You know how you look up words that are used everyday, and you can use in context, but the dictionary definition can still be powerful? Here's the dictionary definition.

Quote:

a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering.

Compassion by this definition seems perfect to describe the way I feel. I don't know how good I can feel if I feel sympathy and sorrow for those who are misfortunate.

My perception of humanity by itself isn't great, but I've got hope for humanity. I think most of the problems lie with society. Things can be fixed. (hopefully.)

Mwahhahaha reviving an old thread, lol

Well true that the world is full of s**t, it is, and most people are uncaring stuborn idiots, and the world is a sad and painfull place for empaths, like me. But somehow you have to get to understand the dark side of humanity, and even find that you can love things that are slightly darker... and that what you once thought was evil doesn't seem so evil when looked at from an understanding perspective, that being the key, perspective, yet through this process you find the true evilness of the world, most of it lying in people's souls.
I don't know if the world will ever change, but giving up is like... like throwing a piece of trash on the street instead of the trashcan thinking "what difference can I make?", well if thousands of people think the same way as you, then noone's doing anything. I think of it sorta like karma... if I do good, at least someone will recieve good, even if it's not me. I don't belive in the 'what goes around, comes around' thing, I never expect anything of anyone... so no dissappointments occur when something bad happens, but oh the joy when something good does...
erm... anyway, I started ranting again... the idea is "if noone does good then noone will recieve good, do good" ;P

Yeah I often feel that way. And it's maddeningly depressing. I try to take the day and improvements as they come, but the persistent gap that seems to have always existed between genders, even in ancient times, I feel there's absolutely no way in hell it could even begin to be reconciled, and for this reason I am often extremely urgent in my need for things to change. I wish that society could be turned around and become matriarchal, and just see how men like it. To let it sink in to the point where they're supposedly free and their shackles broken, but where it still underlines so many cultural tendencies that it makes them sick. Honestly the vindictive side of me wishes that so badly because it feels as htough the only way to be reconciled would be to do so. However, the reasonable and dominant (usually) part of me realizes that it would only feed the beast, so I support equality on all fronts for this reason. Still, it makes me frustrated to think of all of the pain and suffering that existed for time that we'll never be able to get back.
