Sei's Great Grandmother introduced him to the combination of Western/Eastern magic. She taught him all he currently knows about the cards and their magic. Apparently she was a Card Captor herself, in the far past. When she died, a lot of the magic she'd told him stories about died with her.
Sei's Father left their family when he was very young. He's not sure why, but his mother doesn't talk about it. As a distraction, he continued his studies that his Grandmother started and began to do his own research until he discovered the core information about Clow Reed and the cards. Intent on recreating the cards in hopes that it would bring back the magic his Grandmother had introduced him to, he began attempting to make the cards.
