General Rules of RP

These are the rules that are standard for all role play rules in this section, specific role plays may have rules of their own, but those written here will apply to all.

Rules for Players:

1: Separation of OOC and IC – I cannot stress this rule enough, it is the most important rule to keep in mind when role playing. Just because you have a piece of information out of character, such as another character's name, does not mean your character will have it. By the same token, if your friend's character attacks or in some way harms your character in game, do not take it personally, they are just playing their own character, reacting to the situation such as he should.

2: Keep it in Context – When joining an RP, make sure your character fits with the parameters of the role play world as laid out by the creator/s. If you are joining a modern, real world RP, without any fantasy, or sci-fi elements, do not RP a dragon riding elf who carries a light saber. Conversely, if you are joining a medieval fantasy RP, do not choose a street thug who carries a .45 and a cell phone as your character.

3: Fighting style is T1 – Essentially what this means is that everything is turn based, anything you do that effects another character is classified as attempt, you post an attempt, they post a response. (Example to be posted below.) The reason for this restriction in combat style is that the board staff will probably personally be policing any disagreements in who defeated who in which fight, and as this style is not only the easiest to do on a forum based role play, but also the easiest to judge, it is what we ask be used for all role plays in this section.

4: No Spamming, No Trolling – I think we all know what this means. Aside from being a Flaming Pickles of DOOM! Global rule, it's exceedingly important to a healthy, happy role play society... or at least as healthy and happy as one can be.

Rules for Game Makers

1: Observe the Rules for Players Above – Self explanatory, if you can't figure this one out, please get out of the gene pool.

2: Name and Tag – We ask that when making a role play you come up with an official name and tag for it. The name should be like a title, and the tag simple an abbreviated, or short form of the name Example: Name – Skies of Requiem. Tag – SoR. The name will be used in our official RP list, and the tag to lable any threads relating to the role play. Example thread title: The Citadel {SoR}.

3: Content Restrictions – We're not going to lord over you on what you can and cannot have in your RP, just be sure to observe the Gaia TOS, and report any problems directly to guild staff. Which brings us to our next rule.

4: Report Rule Breakers To Guild Staff – If one of the role players in your RP is consistently breaking rules, report it directly to us. Do not, I repeat, do not attempt to solve the problem yourself, without moderation powers you'll only just rile them up more. Similarly, any disagreements over IC, or even OOC fights that you find yourself incapable of handling can be reported to us as well.

Type One Combat.

The Basics:

T1 is turn based, meaning before someone gets a second post, everyone involved gets to post.

No God Modding! This means you can’t play a god, your character does have to have some flaw, and cannot be immune to everything. Be reasonable and enjoy fair play.

Respect and honor. Yes. The codes of old. If you know your character can’t get out of something without being a n00b, take the hit! If you have a legitimate way around it, go for it. It gets boring as hell trying to fight someone that just won’t take the hits when you know that they should.

The OOC/IC rule: Just because you know something, doesn’t mean your character does. You may know the secrets of the universe, but a halfling commoner likely doesn’t. Stay true to your character.

Format used for Type One combat can be anything from Semi-paragraph to Multi-paragraph.

That should be about it for the basics.

Sub-styles.

H2H (Hand to Hand). No weapons, no projectiles, no armor, no special abilities. Two mortal foes going back and forth in a flurry of blows with nothing but their own natural bodies.

RM (Realistic Melee). Weapons of a realistic, non-projectile manner. Often has limitations on armor, number of weapons, types of weapons. It is all about the skill with the blade (or staff or whatever weapon you choose). There are no special powers here, nor magic.

Melee with Innate Powers. Same thing as RM, but some minor things can be done. Also known as non-realistic Melee. One can perform interesting maneuvers that would be impossible in real life, but with limitations to mostly melee related techniques.

Mild Powers. The minor manipulations of elements and magic. Nothing huge, but usually enough. A good mix of melee can be your best friend in this sort of fight.

PC Limited. Spells, magic, power, psionics. You a do anything that doesn’t effect an entire dimension, destroy realms, planets etc.

T1 Assassination Style. A refined version of PC Limited that was created in 2000. It was popular among assassins and bounty hunters. Your intro states that you are an assassin, your follow up post defines who your target is. If they are IC and not paying attention, it doesn’t matter. Your next post can be your attack. Even if it is ignored, you can post a death blow with your next post. Not the most honorable way of combat, as the Assassin is often hidden and unable to be seen. Note: You cannot be on ignore by the person you are attacking.

T1 PC No Limits. Anything and everything goes. Including destroying the omniverse. Not the most honorable, it has been labeled as one of the most challenging forms of T1. It is also known as T1 APC.
