Yep, I know, many of you are going to get annoyed FAST with this one, but I feel like I have to bring it out.
I have participated in alot of roleplays over the years, and enjoy them to their fullest. I must admit though, some have annoyed me. Why? Well, because of the constant cliche of characters. The worst type?
The over pathetic abused character.
I was once writing a high school roleplay and actually had to tell someone they couldn't join was because of their character. His young male character was a boy of about fourteen, who hated himself, was scared, molested by a teacher, and wanted to die.
Ok, if your character is THAT screwed up, then they wouldn't be joining his school in the first place.
I had another character I was roleplaying with who was extremly shy. She refused to talk with anybody, and practically hid in the corner. If you have a character that refuses to talk with anybody, and only decides to mumble insane words to themselves, then there really wasn't much of a roleplay going on. Interation is a main base to roleplaying, and if your character doesn't wish to, it makes it difficult on everyone else.
The third type os the extremly angry individual who hates everyone, usually because of a scarred past. We have all met one of these. They refuse totalk to people, and when they do, they look down on them, and even in battle, YOU CAN NEVER WIN! Grr... Makes you want to hit them a little... with a stick... like we do Johnny. OO
I guess it's just a major frusteration. I love to roleplay, but when characters are EXTREME, it kind of makes it a bit of an annoyance istead of enjoyable.

I have to agree with the extreme characters. There is one thing that bus me in a RP is when the person cant spell a single word right. I mean they sometimes have good characters but because of the horrible spelling you cant understand their characters actions.
I do understand the ** action rp but again it can be somewhat confusing to fallow. Trust me almost everyone had started in this stage. If you have been Rping for a long time....Please stop using ** for your actions, you should be able to at least be semi-lit after Rping with other people.

Am I really the only one laughing? Some of the characters that people put up are over-used yes but, there's really nothing you can do about it. I know I've made one or two in my time however I like to think that now my characters are a bit unpredictable.

>w< Wow others maybe predictable but i normally use a different character when ever i join a RP. Its rare that i ever use a different picture then my own images i have drawn. I only have like 3 characters that i have used in more then 3 RPs. I'm weird like that.
Even though you are using the same pic for every Rp you join i don't think that you have to change it. A personality change for a character can do wonders for a Rp.

The three things that grinds my gears for Roleplay characters. Is that people over use Naruto characters for their appearance. Another is that I had my appearance drawn twice for me by my bro and once by a friend. I see a few days later that the pick was taken by another who liked it no credit given to the creators of those masterpieces. My final one that grinds my gears is not related to Roleplay character directly but people seem to overuse the name sasuke and other anime/video game characters for their gaians. This concludes my session of Things that grind my gears. (Damn Family Guy cliché.)

stare The thing that bothers me the most is when people are lazy and don't think to check their spelling and grammar. stare

XD I like changing my roleplay characters around a bit. For those that are involved in a few of my roleplays you know. Lestat is in one, Honney another, Eyes in his own, Kamui in one... so on and so forth. I only ever re-use characters every once in a while, purely because I like to get the experience of different types of characters.
I also like changing their personalities alot too. I can't stand sticking to just one personality different characters.

Meh, well I have like... 3 "semi extreme" ones, but they dont hate life, they have a HAPPY side also! So I dont feel to guilty about having them. Although it is true, too much extremity can bug someone at times

I will admit, I have used the same personaity before 0.0 I have used the same pictures before I did start off using *etc.
At first I figured it looked pretty!, Now it just anoys me. In roleplays it does, but if it is just a random conversation I will use them. As for the whole over used charachter is true. I hate all those sad sob sob stories, people need to think of reality. and sure that will happen, but sometimes not to that degree that say they get abused by the teacher.
Along side of that note, I also rely on my acuatly personality. It's how I feel for how my character will act. Also the names that are over used, why cant people just use normal names like Beckie, Danielle etc. Not all these fancy names. Sure, if you want a mistical character etc but in a reality roleplay, not many people are going to have some name like Inuyasha, Yogoo, etc.
Thats my opinion.

Ok i use names like Yuki, Rika, Kurai, and other japanese names but thats mostly because a lot of other names don't seem to fit a specific character. I do admit that i have used these three a bit too much. But one name that has bugged me is Yuki, i have seen and heard this name all over the place and sometimes i ask why people why they choose that name. Most of the responses have been, "because it comes from a person on Tv" or "Because i know it means Snow." Sure i understand that snow is a pretty cool name but i mean c'mon if you have seen it in more then 3-4 RP in a row it gets really old.
ninja Heehee for my character i ended up changing her name to Kori [it means ice in Jp]

I don't usually use Japanese names, for the sole reason is that when a character is created in Japan, the characters personality is deeply looked into, and based upon that they name the character. Names mean a huge deal there, and so I try to stay away. I figure I'm American, I'll name most of my characters in a more American sense. ^^" I do sometimes use Japanese names, only after much research.

I'm a freak and dont put much research into the names. I have a list that has a description on each name i choose. So yeah, i enjoy using the names though cause most people can tell who i am......I'm American and i get lazy sometimes too through. I got one character names Kat its plain and simple.

Oh, heh, don't get me wrong, there's absolutly nothing with people giving their character Japanese names. It's your characters, do as you wish, I just prefer not.
