My main suggestion is to draw from life as much as you possibly can =D try to get to life drawing classes (which can be tough if you don't have a car or live in an area that doesn't have much of an art community) or try getting friends to pose for you. You can also draw from photos. Try looking into the Loomis book "Figure Drawing for all it's worth!" because it has some great stuff about proportions.

I'm going to take figure drawing this summer, I have no time until then. I'll try to look up that book.

It's pretty easy to find if you look in the right places ^^ It's out of print as far as I know, so several people have popped it online.
