Hi there! I'm Farore, and I'm going to be working with Merenwen99 on the roleplaying game in this guild. I'm sure it'll be great working with all of you! heart
I want to talk a little bit about original roleplay characters. Now, I'm seeing quite a few characters getting rejected, and a lot of them are making similar mistakes, so I'm just gonna go over a list of do's and don'ts as far as creating a brand new character.
Please note this is by no means a written-in-stone set of rules, but your character will more likely be accepted if you keep these in mind.
1. Include as much detail as possible! Just listing your character's eye and hair color and little else doesn't do much for the imagination; be sure to mention your character's hair style, whether he or she has large eyes, friendly eyes, cold eyes, and so on. Talk about your character's clothing, distinguishing birthmarks, anything that makes your character stand out.
2. Don't copy other anime characters or your Gaia avatar! If you send in an application for a Naruto or Link clone, you probably won't be accepted. It's okay to base a character on an existing one, but be sure to change the character enough to make him or her your own.
3. Originality is the number one quality we want in original characters. Everyone wants to be the silent, brooding, anti-hero swordsman, but if everyone plays that kind of character, Hyrule becomes a very gloomy and dull place to live. Try to avoid creating this type of overdone character.
4. Again, lots of detail is good! When you fill out a character's background, don't just say everything is unknown, that sounds less mysterious than you probably intend and more like you're copping out. If you don't want your character to tell anyone about him or herself in roleplay, that's fine, but giving your character a rich backstory shows us you've put some work into your character.
5. Try to tie your character's story into actual events that took place in the games if possible. This lets us know you've done your homework as far as the game world and makes your character seem like a legitimate part of that world. Failing that, at least keep your character a believable part of the Zelda universe; no Super Saiya-jin or mecha pilots.
I think I hit most of the big points. If anyone has anything to add, please feel free. heart
