I mean it! I've been working on this speech for about 2 weeks, and I still haven't found a term that doesn't sound stupid!
Marijuana-Everyone laughs.
Cannabis-Ha. I think maybe TWO people know what that is in my school...
Pot- Again, they laugh.
What do you think?
Oh, and the speech I'm trying to make is persuading to legalize marijuana. NOT for just fun smoking, but as like a painkiller and such.

I'd go with pot or cannabis. They'll laugh at first but it'll wear off once you get into the speech. Or maybe just say, "Pot, also known as cannabis..." at some point to segue into mostly using the word cannabis. They'll laugh less at it, at least?
Unless you're in middle school. o__o If so... tough it out. Kids are immature. xd

It has already been legalized out here and it is not strange to see a shop selling Marijuana cookies, for those who wish to not kill their lungs, or brownies even. I've never seen any laugh at the word Marijuana or pot before but I remember Kim and her friend being shocked by how open Toronto is after they saw bongs being sold in front of a store right on the downtown streets. I never thought anything about it until they pointed them out. *shrugs*
Anyways, I wish I had more to see, but wanted to wish you all the luck with your lecture, if kids laugh at you then give them a serious look and wait until they stop laughing. Usually a cold quiet glare gets kids to stop acting like fools... some of the times that is.
