This is C&P from my Myspace bulletin- don't expect to know where these places are. And I'm still spazzing. I don't know if the guy is even alive. --Z ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
9:23PM Sunday, June 17 2007 Ok, I'm driving home from dinner with my dad (my mom and austen had left much earlier, so they were not present). We were driving down the new part of North Belair, and my dad was talking about how we need to watch out for drunk drivers while we're driving. Idk how we started off on that, but whatever.
All of a sudden this white truck (who we're behind) suddenly swerves off the road a bit. My dad was like "Whoh! Example A" and hands me his cell phone. I'm like, WTF, and he said "dial 911". So I do, and at this point, the car, who had been driving at a pretty normal speed, sped up. I'm yelling for my dad to give the car some more room, as we're still right behind it. He does, while describing where we are and what the car looks like to the 911 person.
At this point we are at the North Belair-Evans Towne Center bvd. Stoplight. The driver stops -get this- in the dead center of the intersection, and patiently waits for the light to turn green. WTF?
As soon as its green, he zooms forward, passing 6-7 cars- he was on the wrong side of the road at this point. My dad had been speaking pretty calmly up until now, but when the driver swerves out of our lane (which he had returned to) and almost into another car. this car swerves completely off the road and far into a ditch. My dad started yelling at this point, and I'm shaking. He almost hits another car, which also swerves off the road, but not into a ditch, and then it speeds even more and around that corner.
We have lost sight of him, but not for long. The 911 person is all like "can you see him? Do you know where he is?" We are around the corner at this point, and passing that little pond with the fountain in it. My dad is looking forward along the road, but I'm looking at the pond.
Yeah, I'm looking at the pond. And the smoking rubble of a flipped car on the other side of it. I couldn't see anything except "Dad. Dad. Dad." He was like "WHAT? do you see him" I pointed. Yep, found him.
My door was open before we stopped, and my dad and I were sprinting across the road. My dad was then like "My phone. Go get it." and sends me back. So i run back, and have to unlock the door, which took forever bc Icouldn't remember the combo.
I grab it and turn back. I couldn't cross the road, too many cars. But I could see everything. A man and a woman ran up and reached into the shattered window of the truck, to unbuckle him, I guess. They pulled him out, and even though you're not supposed to move people like that, the car was still smoking. So they pull him away, and my dad (the first aid trained doctor) helps get him settled. The first couple police cars arrived at this point, and then a fire truck, and another. I was talking to a woman who was also involved, and this guy walkes up. He was like, "Did you see him run me into a ditch?" OMG. I was all "Were you that green van?" "yep." "Then yeah, I did. Are you ok?" And stuff like that.
I crossed the road at that point, trying to see where my dad was. He was still crouched next to the guy, and the fence around the pond kept me away. So I stood there just talking with my mom (phone).
Apparently the guy is about 50-60, a VA patient (look it up), and they were having issues keeping the airway open.
That my brush with death for the... eh... year? I hope.
