That depends, of course, on your budget. if you're going off of just the money you make on your current one, you won't be able to get much of anything at all. I'm pretty sure Epiphone makes a Ripper model, but I can't find one anywhere. As for Fender Jazz, they're great and easy to get. I recommend buying the most expensive Jazz you can afford, because it's an investment you'll be happy with for years. Don't go any cheaper than the Standard, the Highway One series is great, and the American and American Deluxe are simply orgasmic. Also, there are several artist series Jazz basses to choose from, including the Geddy Lee, Mike Dirnt, and Marcus Miller basses.
So yeah, my vote's on Fender.

I have a Squier MB-4 Bass by Fender. The single-coil P Bass pickup up front and single-coil J Bass pickup at the bridge have a continuous pan pot between them to crank out growling, grinding, howling tone. Deep double-cutaways and 22 medium-jumbo frets let you soar free on high-note solos.Amazing quality for the price, with agathis sleek-contoured body, C-shape maple neck with 12"-radius rosewood fretboard, and die-cast mini-tuners. Black metallic finish. Just $199.99 at Musicianfriends.com
