Midol?
  Great!
  Doesn't do much for me.
  Never tried it.

Soooooo....
Midol. For those that don't know, it's a lovely pill you take on your period for menstruel (sp?) pains and such.
Only I think it's pot in medicine form. Because for six hours I'm bouncing off the walls so happy my friends are both ready to kill me and are scared of me. And after words I'll cry at the slightest sign of something sad or bad. Unless I take more. Then I'm all drugged up again.
Did I mention I'm on it right now?
And I haven't stopped smiling for two hours?
So, what other drugs do the ladies of the forums know of that seem to work a tad too well?

I looked up that med and all it says is that it is Ibuprofen so it should not be doing anything weird to you. I mean when I first took Ibuprofen I got dizzy and saw trails and ended up sleeping for over 12 hours. But nothing like you described. *shrugs* you might want to talk to your doctor about that.

Midol and Ibuprofen only get rid of my headaches...they do nothing for cramps for me or any of my friends. I use naproxen sodium- it's the only thing that makes those first few days of cramps livable. (Interesting sidenote- combining naproxen with nyquil gives me muscle twitches. They're actually quite amusing...though thay may also be the drugs speaking)

Albuterol A.K.A. my inhaler. It makes me hyper and stuff... although the doctor said that's normal. I almost never use it, though.

Melatonin or Benadryl. I take Melatonin to help me sleep, sometimes. It can KNOCK ME OUT in about 5 minutes, sometimes. Woo. Benadryl has the same effect... I often end up stumbling almost drunkenly down the hallway towards my room and bed.

That's about it. xP

I used to have dysmenorrhea, and Midol was the only drug potent enough to come close to helping. Unfortunately, it also made me really dizzy and tired. Oh well; better to be dizzy and tired than throwing up. I was so grateful when my doctor put me on the pill; life is much easier now. mrgreen

I have a big problem with Benadryl. I've got pretty bad allergies, but non-drowsy meds aren't terribly effective for me. But when I use Benadryl, it knocks me out cold every time. Sometimes, I wake up really sweaty and I have trouble moving, and I have to turn on the fan and lie back down again. You'd think my body would quit feeling that side effect after taking the stuff long enough, but sadly, no.......onyl das........

I did some pretty limited Pharmacology studies, but...
Looking at the actions of the individual ingredients and the whole medication, the only plausible situation I can come up with is Hypersensitivity to Caffiene.
Regular Midol is not for the treatment of Menstrual cramp, but premenstrual cramps. The Maximum Strength formula contains Naproxin sodium, is for Menstrual cramps.

If Naproxin works for your cramps, some other medications that have it are Aleve, Anaprox, Naprogesic, Naprosyn, Naprelan and Synflex.

Naproxin should not be taken by anyone with Hypertension or Hemophilia, People taking Asprin, Pepto-Bismol or ingest large amounts of Sodium or Lithim (Particularly supplements.)

If you're really looking for a way to get rid of the cramps, Ask your doctor about Diclofenac. Absolutely wonderful Anti-inflamatory that just nips it in the bud. Take it the first two days you get cramp. The rest of the days should be fine without. Not for people with liver, Kidney disorders or Stomach Ulcers.

One of the less likely options, is cyclobenzaprine. Less side effects, but a stronger medication. Its also rarely given out in the US due to trafficing issues.

<3 I hope this helps!
And yea... Health care isn't free everywhere, which is unfortunate. Move to canada wink hang out with us girls here and get free healthcare razz

THERE'S CAFFEINE IN IT?!?!?!
stare Damn it all to hell.
I'm allergic to caffiene. And milk. And powdered garlic.
>< No wonder I'm so messed up. I have a limit of how many things I'm allergic to that I can have in a day.
Thanks for the info...I'll have to be more careful.
I HATE allergies.
And I wanna visit Canada sometime...Where'd be a good place to visit?

I take one maximum strength Midol a month, and no other meds. I can't stand taking meds...I have this weird aversion to swallowing pills.
However, if I do not take the Midol I vomit, have diarrhea, can't stand due to the pain, ect. So it's to lesser of two evils, at least when I take it, I can still function.

ShoujoaiKat - I have problems with meds as well. I have troubles swallowing pills, but I have to take meds now so I found that if I take one at a time and place them in the middle of my tongue I'm fine, for the most part that is.

Shadow Tora - Toronto is a great place to visit. If you come by car or bus you can travel through Niagara falls on the way here. Toronto has the fourth largest gay population in the world and one of the largest Pride celebrations around. It is the biggest city in Canada and has alot of things to do and see while here. In the summer they are known to shut down parts of downtown for all kinds of festivals and the like. There never seems to be a boring day out here.

if this hasn't been mentioned before Midol works differently for everyone. I'm the kind of person growing up where if it said "may cause drowziness" as a kid it had the OPPOSITE affect. Now not so much but it takes longer for any drowziness to actually occur.

I used midol once, all it did was keep me up and barely do s**t for my monthly issues.
I take aleve. WHY? Because Aleve is a blood thinner, thus why it helps with aches pains and what not. For me it helps with my horrible cramps as well as work all day. But take no more than four a day as after that its dangerous. But yeah....Midol that supposedly does alot of things is rather different per person. No offense but you'd be better off taking a store brand "PMS" pill....its way cheaper (around where i live at least)

Also, Naproxin which is the store brand of aleve among other things and Nuprin if you can find it, which is a slightly stronger version of aleve
