I just recently finished the first chapter of one of my two Bleach fanfics. Tell me what you think!
------------------------------
“Onee-san,” a small blonde boy tugged on a girl’s sleeve, “What are you thinking about?”
The girl turned towards her younger brother, “Nothing, nothing at all, Nari-kun.”
-----------
“Good morning everyone,” Kuchiki Rukia smiled as she entered the class room.
“Good morning Kuchiki-san,” Asano was swooning as usual.
“Hey, did you hear about that new girl who just transferred in?” Mizuiro leaned over from his desk.
“What new student?” Ichigo asked.
Just then the door slid open and a girl with long brown hair and dark brown eyes stepped into the room. She didn’t wear a uniform. Instead she was dressed in a dark blue shirt, jeans and white sneakers. As she moved closer, Ichigo realized she had blue streaks in her hair.
“Excuse me,” the girl was approached by one of the other students, “Who are you? Are you the new student?”
“I suppose,” the girl replied, “My name is Aohana Megami. I moved here from Odaiba.”
“Pleased to meet you, Oh Goddess of the Flowers,” Asano bowed in front of the girl.
The girl was obviously not happy with Asano’s sudden out burst. She quickly kicked him in the side of the head. Ichigo and the others eyes widened.
“Never call me that again, you womanizer,” Aohana growled.
“Heh,” Ichigo almost smiled as the new girl walked closer, “Nicely handled. Any girl who can handle Asano is welcomed here.”
“Thanks,” Megami smiled slightly, “What’s your name?”
“Kurosaki Ichigo,” Ichigo smiled.
“Ichigo lets see…” Megami tilted her head in thought, “So your name means either: Strawberry, fifteen, or the one who protects… nice.”
The red-head blinked before smiling, “Well, this is Orihime, Rukia, Chad and Mizuiro. Welcome to Karakura.”
“Thanks,” Megami smiled, “I hope the principal lets me wear the guy’s uniform, I hate skirts. My dad also made a big fuss about how short they were saying how he would let me wear them anyway.”
“Your dad isn’t going to make you wear the girl’s uniform because the skirt is too short?” Rukia looked down at her own uniform, she had to admit, the skirt was rather short.
“Huh, your dad’s weird…” Ichigo thought about his own father and shuddered, “Never mind…” Megami gave him a confused look.
Just then the teacher walked and called out to Megami. The brunette waved to her new friends before going to speak to the teacher.
“Alright everyone, sit down,” the teacher smiled, “We have a new student with us today, she’s all the way from Odaiba. Go ahead and introduce yourself.”
“Ohayo Gozaimasu!” Megami smiled, “My name is Aohana Megami. I live with my mom, dad and little brother. I like video games, star gazing and reading manga. I hope we can become good friends.” Megami bowed slightly.
Many boys started exclaiming how “cute” Megami was, only to receive glares from the brown-eyed girl. The teacher directed her to a seat behind Ichigo. The transfer student breezed through the mourning classes with out to many problems. She almost got in trouble with the math teacher for not having a uniform on until Orihime explained the situation.
Megami barely escaped Orihime and the other girls during lunch. She liked them, sure, but she liked to hang with guys better. She dashed out of the classroom just as Chizuru and the others were about to call her name. She spotted Ichigo and Mizuiro going up to the roof and followed them.
“Nee, Ichigo-san, Mizuiro-san, wait up,” Megami yelled up at the two boys. It didn’t take long for her to catch up with them, “Mind if I eat lunch with you guys?”
“Not at all,” Mizuiro smiled, “But I figured you’d want to eat with the girls.”
“Nah,” Megami flicked her wrist in a nonchalant downwards motion, “I’m not one to hang out with girls, too much drama and senseless chatter about things that bore me. I’d rather hang with guys.”
“Seems reasonable,” Ichigo nodded, “C’mon then.” Megami smiled and followed the two boys onto the roof where they were greeted by Chad and Keigo. Asano was all too happy to learn Megami was going to be joining them for lunch.
“Ah, Miss Aohana, I am all too fortunate to be graced with your presence,” He said, trying to sound as cool as possible.
Megami glared at the brunette, “Don’t make me throw you off the roof.” Keigo immediately backed off to the far side of the group’s little circle.
Megami didn’t talk much after that. She noticed a few things about the group as she munched away at her meatball sandwich. One: Chad almost never talked, and when he did, it was usually a one or two word sentence. The maximum she heard from him was five. Two: Mizuiro was quite the player. He would date several older women at once. Megami was just glad he didn’t do that to girls his age. Three: Keigo had a crush on almost every girl in the school. And four…
Ichigo had amazing spiritual energy. She could practically touch it. Ichigo caught her looking at him strangely and ask what was wrong.
“Nothing, I like your hair, that’s all,” Megami quickly made up an excuse. Ichigo blinked, and then blushed slightly.
“Uhhhh…thanks,” Ichigo muttered, “Yours is cool too…”
“Are those streaks natural?” Mizuiro pointed at the girl’s hair. Megami touched her infamous blue strands.
“Yeah,” Megami nodded, “Been like this as long as I can remember. I’ve gotten in trouble at my past schools here in Japan for having it like this.”
“You’ve been out of the country?” Keigo asked. Megami nodded, “America actually. I lived there from the time I was ten till I was in eighth grade.’
“Oh, say something in English!” Keigo suddenly became very interested. The rest looked at her expectantly. Megami felt slightly flustered.
“Um…well…I…” Megami didn’t know what to say. Finally, she came up with something, “Um okay this is the chorus from a song I like. Here we go…
I'm a nightmare, a disaster
That's what they always said
I'm a lost cause, not a hero
But I'll make it on my own
I've gotta prove them wrong
Me against the world
It's me against the world”
“Happy now…?” Megami blushed, she didn’t usually sing in front of people.
“So, what exactly did you say…?” Mizuiro asked. Megami translated the song back into Japanese for the boys.
“Huh…” Keigo crossed his arms, “It’s kind of a depressing song, don’tcha think?”
“Not really,” Ichigo muttered, “if you think about it, it’s kind of like a story about a kid who’s an outsider and realizes that no one understands him so he’s basically saying ‘Screw society, I’m who I am and nothing’s gonna change that’.” Ichigo noticed Megami staring at him again, “What?”
“You hit the target dead on the first try…” Megami smiled, “That’s exactly right!”
Ichigo smiled. Megami stood up and stretched, then offered to take the other’s trash to the trash bin down stairs. Ichigo decided to go with her just incase she got lost.
After throwing away the trash, Megami slipped into the restroom, telling Ichigo to go ahead. Ichigo walked slowly, not wanting to get to far ahead. Suddenly, he heard a loud male voice yell, “Ms. Aohana what is with this hair!?”
Ichigo ran towards the sound to see one of the most disliked male teachers pulling at Megami’s hair.
“I’m telling you, that’s my natural color!” Megami was crying. She was scared, most teachers often didn’t like her hair but it was never like this.
“Hey, get away from her, teme!” Ichigo slammed his fist into the teacher’s face. Megami looked up at her savior, tears still falling from her eyes.
“Kurosaki! What do you think you’re doing?!” the teacher yelled, “I should expel you for punching me like that.”
“You should be fired for treating your students that way,” Ichigo glared, “Megami’s hair is completely natural, and you have no right to treat her like a criminal!”
“Ichigo…” Megami smiled at her friend through tears. Megami then took out her cell phone and started dialing a number. Soon she began talking in hushed tones. Ichigo picked out words like ‘dad’ ‘teacher’ and ‘please come’.
“What are you doing using a cell phone in school?” The teacher howled.
“Calling my father,” Megami gave the teacher a cold look, “If you won’t believe me about my hair, maybe you’ll believe him.”
A few minutes later, Aohana Pintomaru, Megami and Ichigo were in the teacher’s class room.
“So, not only did you not believe my daughter about her hair but you also abused her?” Pintomaru glared coldly at the teacher, “I should throw you out the window for such conduct.”
“Well, how exactly do you expect me to believe such an outrageous hair color is natural? It’s not even all one color!”
“My daughter doesn’t lie very often unless it’s to protect some one from getting hurt,” Pintomaru placed a hand on both Megami and Ichigo's shoulders, “This boy had every right to protect his friend by punching you. I think we’re through here. Good day sir.”
Pintomaru herded the two teens out the door before saying, “And if I hear anything else from my daughter about you mistreating her, I won’t be so forgiving.”
Megami hugged her father, saying a quiet ‘thank you’ before telling him she’d be home for dinner. Pintomaru smiled before leaving.
“Your dad is really cool,” Ichigo murmured, “I wish my dad was more like him.”
“Ichigo! Aohana-chan!” Keigo, Mizuiro and Chad ran up to the duo.
“Is everything okay?” Keigo asked, “You weren’t in class…”
“Megami had some troubles with that one teacher no one likes,” Ichigo explained, “But her dad took care of it.”
“Oh, I see,” Keigo smiled, “Well, let’s get back to class, before we’re late.”
Later that evening, Megami sat in her room, reading a sci-fi book when she heard a loud rumbling noise. Her brother opened the door.
“Onee-san,” the blonde boy looked gravely serious as he pulled on a glove resembling Rukia’s, “its coming.”
Megami nodded and stood. Her brother shoved his hand through her stomach. Megami’s soul went flying out of her body. That’s right. Megami was a Shinigami. But she sure didn’t look like one.
Instead of the usual black shinigami uniform, Megami wore a light blue short-skirted kimono with a large, pale green, bow like obi. She nodded her thanks to her brother before jumping out her window.
Down on the streets below, Ichigo was having a hard time with this hollow. It just wouldn’t die! The large spider like creature was almost too fast. It lunged at Ichigo. Only to be met by Megami’s sheathed blade. Ichigo gaped. Megami was a Shinigami?
“My my,” the hollow jeered, “I didn’t expect an ugly, worthless piece of s**t like you to be here.”
“Oji-teme…,” Megami’s eyes widened, “Teme! What are you doing here?”
“Coming after you and the boy obviously,” The spider like hollow growled.
“NO!” Megami shouted, “You leave Narisaru out of this!” Megami drew her sword and lashed out at her uncle’s soul.
“Onee-san…,” Megami turned to see Narisaru peeking from around the corner. Megami’s eyes widened in fear, ‘Oh no, please god no!’
“Ah, here comes the worthless brat now,” her uncle sneered, rushing towards the boy.
“NARI!” Megami ran towards her brother. She saw the hollow lunge, but he was soon screaming in pain. Megami blinked. Then she saw him. Ichigo had saved her brother.
“Megami!” Ichigo yelled at the female shinigami, “Finish him off!”
Megami nodded. She ran her hand along her blade saying, “Bloom, Hanako!” Ichigo and Rukia watched as the girl’s sword turned completely green while green ribbons flowed from the hilt.
“Ichiban no hana,” Megami thrust her sword into the ground, “Yanagi Tsukamukoto! The first flower! Willow Grip!”
Willow branches shot up from the ground, effectively paralyzing the hollow. Megami then took her blade and stabbed it through the hollows forehead before saying, “Sanbanme no hana. Bara Fubuki. The third Flower – Rose Blizzard.”
Her uncle howled in pain and Megami knew exactly why. Razor sharp rose petals were moving in a storm-like pattern inside his body. Megami decided he’d felt enough pain and pulled her zanpakto downwards. The four watched as the gates of hell dragged Megami and Narisaru’s uncle through the gate.
“Okay, so you’re a shinigami,” Ichigo turned to Megami, “How is that possible?”
“My dad gave me his power’s when I turned ten,” Megami explained, “I’ve been fighting Hollows ever since.”
“And who was that?” Rukia asked, “He seemed to know you.”
“That was our uncle…,” Narisaru spoke up, “When we lived in America, our Mom and Dad would leave us with our uncle and well…”
“He’d abuse us,” Megami finished, holding her brother tight, “Both physically and emotionally. His favorite insult seemed to be ‘ugly’ and ‘worthless’.”
Narisaru looked towards the ground before looking up at Ichigo, “Ichigo-san, will you be my onii-san?”
Ichigo blinked then smiled and patted Nari’s head, “Sure, I’ll be your big brother.”
