"Dwayne, hurry up! Has anyone seen Caitlin? Connor, find your sister! Dwayne... Dwayne, put that down! OHHH! Allan!" Kathleen McKensie rushed about the farmhouse, her cheeks red from exertion and her hands flailing wildly as she ushered her children out of the house. The acceptance letter from Hogwarts had arrived for Caitlin (Oh! She was so proud!) and the boys needed new supplies. Diagon Alley was sure to be packed with other wizarding families preparing their children for school, and if they didn't get there now they may just have to rummage in the scraps for the proper books!
"Ma! I found Caitlin." Connor came in, grinning broadly. He was carrying Caitlin over one shoulder as easily as he would carry a sack of flour.
The girl didn't struggle, bless her heart. She simply peered about at the world, perfectly comfortable in her brother's strong arms even though her stomach was squished against his strong shoulder. "... Ma?..." her voice was soft, sweet. Gentle. She craned her neck around so that she could see her mother. "... Wha's goin' on?"
Kathleen shook her great mane of wild red hair, clucking at her daughter. "Now Caitlin, I told you yesterday that we were going to Diagon Alley to buy school supplies! Really, dear, you must pay attention!" She heaved a great sigh, then peered up the stairs. "DWAYNE! Come on! We aren't leaving for a week, you needn't pack!" ("Coming, Ma!") She rushed Connor and therefore Caitlin into the living room, moving them towards where her husband waited at the fireplace with the Floo Powder.
Dwayne came jogging down the steps, his shaggy hair blocking his emerald eyes from view. He moved forwards without a word, took a handful of Floo Powder, stepped into the fireplace, uttered "Diagon Alley" and disappeared in a puff of green smoke.
Allan stared at the spot where his youngest son had disappeared, making a mental note to give him a stern talking-to about manners.
Kathleen places one hand on Connor. "You next, dear." She took Caitlin from him, who held out her arms to her mother with a sweet smile. A gentle 'oof' came from Kathleen as she cradled her daughter in her arms for a few moments before setting her on the ground; bearing three children had taken a toll on her, and her muscles didn't work as well as they used to.
Connor stepped forwards and accepting a handful of Floo Powder from his father with a faint nod, locking eyes briefly before stepping into the fire place and uttering the proper incantation.
Kathleen smiled at her husband, a soft light entering her eyes. Her love for him had grown over the years, maturing and deepening from that lust-filled spark that had started in her heart on that first day she had seen him so many years ago. Allan had left his family, his rich pure-blooded family, for her. For love of her.
The woman took the Floo Powder and followed her children to Diagon Alley.
Allan peered about the house, checking to make sure that all the windows were closed and the doors locked. It wouldn't do to have a break-in.
He took the remaining Floo Powder, stepped into the fireplace, and vanished.
