I choose to leave the story as open ended as possible so we can shape the specifics as we go. To not contradict any established timelines, we are using an “alternate” dimension story so you don’t have to worry about screwing up important dates or events.
The events of the Marvel Civil War are canon, if you don't know you can familiarize yourself of the basic idea here and/or here
+ In our roleplay, the Civil War Era ends:: March 13th, 2007
+ Captain America is assassinated:: March 14th, 2007
+ Our roleplay starts March 01, 2020, so build your character ages off of these date.
The AU qualities would be that the hero community never recovers from the events of the civil war era. The community keeps splitting into new and smaller hero groups and never comes together again in strong powers like the Avengers, X-Men, X-Force, New Avengers, Excalibur, Fantasic Four, etc. None of these groups are able to re-form after the civil war.
The world is un-stable and a new problem is brewing, the threat of a second civil war among the communities heroes. After the Civil War Era, the Avengers and other “sub groups” and “spin-offs” continued to pop up around the United States (and the world). Disconnect and unrest among heroes remains strong, forged by the years after the civil war which ripped the hero community to pieces and never administered proper care to the larger wounds. Old egos have not deflated and old grudges are still thought of as unforgivable by many. There is really no longer "good guys" and "bad guys" as many good guys would not hesitate to fight another hero as if they are the most vile villain because of the events of the civil war.
S.H.I.E.L.D director Anthony Stark (Iron Man) is currently looking for a new director for S.H.I.E.L.D (something that will come into play in-game).
The Hero Registration Act is still in motion and there is still resistance groups (several different pockets of resistance groups around the United States, Europe, Japan, and India). If you refuse to register, you will be put in jail. If you continue to refuse to register you will be registered by force, fined, and jailed for up to 5 years.
As he has always been a driving force, the new Stark --- brilliant and cold Petre Stark (Tony's only child) also sees the future. The young inventor has also decided to try her hand at rekindling the hero community... but not through pleading and working with old heroes. She is going down the lines, to the next generation, one that might be able to see past their parents pains and find purpose in all of it.
Pete has begun a new project, a group of New Avengers and you have made it to her desk (or otherwise made a name for yourself that caught her eye). You have been extended an invitation to meet at the restored Avenger’s Mansion 890 Fifth Avenue, Manhattan, New York City for, tea and crumpets --- just kidding, a discussion about the future of the hero world, a call for a return to the heroic age, and your place in it --- P.Stark

The Timeline
Try not to obsess or worry about keeping to any official canon timeline, this roleplay follows things up until the civil war. Everything through the civil war and after is going to deviate, seriously, from the canon story.
We are still following the 616, primary continuity. We're just writing our own versions of it and taking it with a grain of salt. If you still aren't sure what this means, feel free to PM me and we can discuss it further and how it relates to the character you're wanting to play.
Also, please keep in mind that the very idea of this roleplay and the nature of the player characters in it are going to change canon histories/events prior to the civil war era. Being that the idea is for people to create a "next generation", the children of canons, and none of these canons actually have children --- so when you approach this to create your character keep all that in mind. You're free to change things to explain your characters conception, their childhood, etc, etc.
