Clow Reed is dead.

His cards died with him, a very long time ago. The magic he worked so hard to build, the legacy he left behind, has long since been lost. There is no cute little magical girl to save them this time, because there's nothing to save...only empty books and blank cards, wands that will not change and boards that lie useless.

And when there is nothing left, and only a spark of the original memory remains...anyone can step forward to claim it as their own. This is what my Master has done. Under the layers of dust and age lies enormous potential; there will be Card Captors in the world again, and cards to appease them. We may not be able to resurrect what once was. Already, things have had to change. The Guardians of the Clow are dead; for the Moon, I am the only one left. My partner and I will protect these fledgling birds, and bring them into the light where their powers can be used...for the balance has been altered. Without the magic of the Cards, everything is beginning to fall apart.

I only hope these new children will learn in time.

In the world of magic, there is a delicate balance to be maintained by anyone- and anything- that touches on the powers it holds. Many years ago, a magician named Clow Reed created a deck of magical cards. Generations later, they were passed on to a girl named Kinomoto Sakura; as she aged and grew the Guardians of the original Clow vowed to protect them, even when she was unable. They failed.

Over time, neglected and unused, the Clow Cards began to decay. No one thought that without even a potential Master, the cards themselves might lose heart. As they faded, the magic of the world began to shift into a sickeningly off-center form...as if a table had been lifted in one corner, and all of the marbles on top rolled to the other end. All of the negative magics in the world began to grow stronger- and those that contained them weaker.

Frustrated with the lack of balance and the losing battle against the shadows of the world, a young mage began to once again research Clow Reed's notes. His magic was like that of the dead mage, mixed Eastern and Western; though he has been unable to recreate all of the cards, he has found ways to make a few of his own to fill in the gaps. The cards, however, are not as strong as they once were, and escape the moment they are created to hide in the world. He needs many young Clow Masters to help capture them and bring order to the chaos.

Cards are not RP required. It is appreciated, though, and there may be bonuses for active owners!
Please keep drama, excessive ranting, poisonous comments, and other negativity out of the thread.
If you have a problem with the shop staff, please take it up with us via PM.

Please do not advertise in this thread. Link requests are fine. ^_^
Shop staff has final say in all conflicts within the thread- from flatsale and auction results to which card would be more powerful in a fight to what we consider appropriate thread behavior/content.
Co-owning is allowed, up to two people per card. How this works out in RP is up to you.
Anyone may own as many cards as they like, and as many of the same type as they like. You are not restricted to one of each card per 'deck.'

The Clow Cards
The Clow Cards are a deck of cards (similar to a Tarot deck) that can be released for specific magical tasks or needs. Originally created by a magician named Clow Reed, the cards mix Eastern and Western magic and can only be captured by those with extremely high levels of skill and/or power. Cards have two stages- 'Card' and 'Summon.'
Card Types
Clow Cards come in one of three types. Elemental cards are based in the natural forces of the world, and are usually some of the strongest cards. Original series examples of these would the The Watery and the Fiery. Sign cards are aligned either to the Sun or the Moon, and have more esoteric meanings and purposes that are not always immediately obvious. Examples from the original series would be The Mirror and The Libra. Lastly, Task cards are usually verbs, cards that represent some kind of action. Examples of these would be The Fly and The Jump.
Subtypes
When Seiji created this version of the Clow, he added a new change- elemental subtypes. Each card has a subtype that makes it align not only to the Sun or Moon, but also to a particular element. This changes their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their appearance. A Card Master might prefer Air as their chosen element; they have the option of increasing their own strength by keeping only cards with Air elemental subtypes. This can be a two edged sword, however: for example, a Watery with a Fire subtype would have a much stronger chance against a Fiery, unless that Fiery had a Water subtype as well. In this case, the two would effectively cancel each other out unless used creatively by their masters. The most powerful cards are those with matching subtypes- i.e., a Watery with a Water subtype.
Capture
Capturing the Clow Cards is not usually an easy task. Usually this requires outsmarting the card to disable it in some way, most often restraining it so it cannot attack or escape. Please be careful! Capturing Cards can lead to serious injuries if the Card Captor isn't on their guard!

RP is definitely not required in this shop, but if you'd like to RP here's the information you need:

The Schools
Card Captors are currently drawn from one of the four divisions of Westchase Academy. The school covers all age groups from elementary to college; students have the option of staying on campus in one of the dorms or living nearby and traveling to class each day. RP-wise, all Card Captors are students; if you'd like an exception to this, please contact the staff and we'll discuss it. More information can be found in the guild.
The Library
The Westchase Academy Library is the shop. If you RP in the thread, you'll be in the Library. The Library is a central location where all Card Captors can meet and discuss their cards; the cards feel safe in the Library, though none of the cards can specify exactly why this is so. After a Card Captor captures their first card, the card will lead them to the Library. It is a huge place, full of massive bookshelves and quiet, comfortable corners- good for discussing secret things away from sharp ears.
The Cards
Clow Cards can be absolutely anywhere. They can manifest as a series of strange occurrences, an obvious use to their particular skill, or (rarer) a physical appearance. The cards will protect their physical forms, because this is what the Card Captor needs to capture them. Some cards will run away, and some will attack- none of them particularly WANT to be caught (see Powers and Limitations). All of the cards are capable of speech, though their mentality is usually that of a child. Even with their instinctual reactions, however, they are very curious and will follow (and harass) anyone who proves to be able to see/locate them. Once the first card is captured, a Card Captor may begin to sense other cards in the area- as well as being drawn to the Library.
Capturing the Cards
As previously stated, the Clow Cards do NOT want to be caught. Seiji is their original Master, and you ARE NOT SEIJI. This freaks them out a bit. They will outright attack and evade anyone who tries to control them. If you aren't careful, the more aggressive cards can put you in the hospital- capturing cards is not an easy task! To capture a card, you must weaken it and find some way to disable it so that you can call it back to it's true form. The other two tools needed are the Key and the Command. 'Key' is a misleading term; the Key can be any item of importance to the Captor that helps them focus (Sakura's Key, Syaoran's Sword, Clow's Staff, Seiji's Lantern). The Command is any word or phrase that vocalizes the Captor's desire to control the card (Sakura's 'Release,' Seiji's 'Invalesco'). It does not have any magical significance aside from helping the Card Captor express their will. Note: If a Card can be convinced peacefully, sometimes it is not necessary to force the Capture with the Key and/or Command.
Personalities and Interaction
Every Card has its own personality, and its own way of interacting with the other Cards. Each of a certain card has similarities in personality, but this is also affected by subtype; a Spark with a Wind subtype might be more easygoing than a Spark with a Fire subtype. All of the cards are capable of speaking at a child's level, which means they can make friends, enemies, etc. Because there are so any of any given type of card, each Card Captor is encouraged to give their cards names. This also helps the Card bond to its Master.
Powers and Limitations
Every Card starts out fairly weak. Only through practice, training, and loyalty to their Master can they become more powerful. In the beginning, Cards are only capable of small magicks. Over time they can become powerful and awe-inspiring- if the Card Captor is willing to work for it! More information on this is forthcoming.
Other Forces
There are several magic organizations in the world, not affiliated with Seiji or the Card Captors, that will make an appearance from time to time. The only currently known organization is the Council of American Wizards (CAW). Other organizations exist in Asia, Great Britain, Europe, and Africa...as well as potential others. Not much is known about these organizations, but they house most of the magic in the world.

Seiji was taught the Clow Cards by his Grandmother. She told him stories and shared all the information she had about the cards and their creator with him before she died. It affected Seiji deeply to loose her, and in her absence he strived to recreate the cards he'd grown to love. His cards are all marked with a Chained Black Heart- so all the cards have this as their backing. His Key is a metal Lantern.

The Guardian of the Moon- Solarune
Seiji's human-seeming Guardian is the dark-skinned, dark-haired Laru of the Silver Eyes. He does not suffer fools lightly. He can be a bit abrasive, arrogant, and sarcastic...but also hopelessly protective of those he loves/guards, and boyish when he finds something that interests/surprises him. His loyalty to Seiji is absolute, though he is perfectly willing to argue with his young Master if he thinks the situation warrants it. He watches over the Cards Seiji creates, keeping track of them as they run rampant and wait for their Card Captors.

The Sleeping Sorceress - Yasu
Yasu is the owner of Shar, the Spirit card. Yasu communicates with the cards and provides Seiji with information and guidance as he created and uses the Clow Cards. She resides beneath the Library and acts as an Oracle. Often times she's in a trance-like state and it's very rarely that she is fully 'awake'. Her past and origins are a mystery, but her Key is ... a piece of string.

Do RP characters have to be shop-based, or can they be Gaia-based?
Characters may be either. OC'sw as well as journal-based kids are welcome to attend the Schools and join in the fun!

Do the subtypes only apply to element cards?
Nope. All cards have an elemental subtype.

How many cards are we allowed to have?
As many as you can afford!

Will you be releasing ________ card?
Probably not. If we release it, it will be a version of the card- very much changed from the original, enough so that it will recieve a new card name.

Can I get a custom slot and request my favorite card?
No. You aren't commissioning Paperghost, you're commissioning the shop colorists- which means that customs come from the existing lineart only. Some edits may be possible, but not custom lineart.
